Θλίψη και συγκίνηση για τον θάνατο του αιωνόβιου Ελληνοαμερικανού παλαιμάχου (also in English)

ΝΕΑ ΥΟΡΚΗ. Θλίψη και συγκίνηση προκάλεσε στους συγγενείς και φίλους, στους Κρήτες της Μασαχουσέτης καθώς επίσης στα στελέχη και μέλη του Καθεδρικού Ναού του Αγίου Γεωργίου στο Σπρίνγκφιλντ της Μασαχουέτης η εκδημία του αιωνόβιου πλέον Θεόδωρου «Τεντ» Παπαδάκη (Theodore “Ted” Papadakis).

Ο Τέντ Παπαδάκης αναχώρησε από τον μάταιο ετούτο κόσμο την Παρασκευή, 14 Ιουλίου 2023, έχοντας στο πλευρό του την οικογένειά του.

Οι συγγενείς και οι φίλοι το απόγευμα της Τετάρτης, 19 Ιουλίου 2023 από τις 4.00 έως και τις 7.00 μ.μ. θα συγκεντρωθούν στο Γραφείο Τελετών Curran-Jones Funeral Home – Agawam στην διεύθυνση 745 Cooper Street, Agawam, MA 01001, για να προσκυνήσουν το σκήνωμά του και να εκφράσουν τα ειλικρινή και εγκάρδια συλλυπητήρια στην οικογένειά του,

Το πρωί της Πέμπτης, 20ής Ιουλίου 2023 και ώρα 10.π.μ. θα συγκεντρωθούν στον Καθεδρικό Ναό του Αγίου Γεωργίου στην διεύθυνση 22 St George Rd, Springfield, MA 01104 για να παρακολουθήσουν την Εξόδιο Ακολουθία

Ο θάνατός του καταλυπεί τα παιδιά του Paul και Kathy Papadakis, Mary Anne και Robert Fields, τον αδελφό Manuel Papadakis, τα εγγόνια Matthew Papadakis, Karlene Papadakis και τον σύντροφό της Jeff Harlin, Jason και Jenny Fields, Brandon Fields, τα δισέγγονα Joseph Papadakis, Alex και Eva Fields, τα ανίψια  Manny Papadakis και οικογένεια, Robert Papadakis και οικογένεια, Diane και Bill Boscovich, Georgia Bouzakis και οικογένεια, Irene Tragares και οικογένεια, καθώς επίσης και τους λοιπούς συγγενείς εδώ και στην Ελλάδα.

Ο αείμνηστος ήταν ένας πραγματικός θρύλος και ένας από τους τελευταίους εν ζωή ήρωες του Β’ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου και έχει βραβευτεί τόσο για την ανδρεία του όσο και για την κοινωνική του προσφορά.

Τις δεκαετίες του ‘70 και του ’80 υπηρέτησε με πάθος την κοινότητα του Καθεδρικού Ναού του Αγίου Γεωργίου στο Σπρίνγκφιλντ Μασαχουσέτης τόσο με την ιδιότητα του προέδρου όσο και όλων των λοιπών αξιωμάτων.  

Οι «Αναμνήσεις» εκφράζουν τα ειλικρινή και εγκάρδια συλλυπητήρια στην οικογένειά του.

Theodore “Ted” Papadakis (1923 – 2023, AGAWAM, ΜΑ)

Theodore “Ted” Papadakis, 100, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 14, 2023.

Ted was born in Chicopee, and was raised in Springfield by the late Paul and Mary (Trakakis) Papadakis. He attended schools in Chicopee and Springfield. Ted served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the US LST 311 as a signalman second class through campaigns of North Africa, Sicily and Salerno as well as at the D-Day landing at Normandy’s Utah Beach. At the conclusion of the European campaign, he went on board the US LSM 495 and proceeded to Pearl Harbor.

The ship began island hopping to Guam, Eniwetok, Saipan, and Okinawa. He was part of the first naval force with mine sweepers ahead clearing the channel of mines to Nagasaki after the surrender of Japan, where he witnessed the devastation of that city.

He was decorated with the American Campaign Ribbon, European Middle East and African Campaign with four battle stars. Also the Asiatic Pacific Theater, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Medal and Special Citation from France Liberte Medal for landing on Utah Beach on D-Day. Following the war he owned and operated Jefferaon Kar Trim and Glass.

He worked at the Springfield Boys and Girls Club as building superintendent and was a member of the Boy’s Club Steering Committee.

Upon his retirement in 2007 he volunteered at Baystate Orthopedic Surgery. The staff became terrific friends of Ted.

Ted was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He served on the Board of Directors from 1970-1980. He held the office of President, Vice President and Treasurer. He coached baseball and basketball in the church leagues. He was a recipient of the Annual Diocese Laity Award.

Τed was a member of the Pan Cretan Minos Crete Association.

Besides his parents, Ted was predeceased by his loving wife, Irene (Bouzakis) Papadakis, a brother, Michael Papadakis and a sister, Evelyn (Papadakis) Pappas.

He is survived by his son, Paul and his wife Kathy Papadakis of Feeding Hills, a daughter, Mary Anne Fields and her husband Robert Fields of Monument, CO, a brother, Manuel Papadakis of Southlake, TX, his grandchildren, Matthew Papadakis, Karlene Papadakis and her partner Jeff Harlin, Jason Fields and his wife Jenny and Brandon Fields. He also leaves his great-grandchildren, Joseph Papadakis, Alex and Eva Fields, his nephew, Manny Papadakis and family, nephew, Robert Papadakis and family, niece, Diane Boscovich and her husband Bill, niece, Georgia Bouzakis and her family, and niece Irene Tragares and family.

Ted’s family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at Heritage Wood where he lived for the past five years and also the very professional and compassionate staff at Heritage Hall South Hospice Unit. We also want to thank Baystate Inpatient Hospice for their kindness and assistance.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9am at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street followed by a service at 10 in the chapel at the parish center at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

The burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, both in Springfield. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Loaves and Fishes Ministry of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 St. George Road, Springfield, MA 01104.
