ΛΑΣ ΒΕΓΚΑΣ. Στον μέχρι πρότινος ύπατο Γραμματέα, κ. Σάββα Τσίβικο πέρασαν πλέον τα ηνία της AHEPA, της κορυφαίας οργάνωσης των Ελληνοαμερικανών, η οποία έχει αποκτήσει παγκόσμιο χαρακτήρα καθώς τα τελευταία χρόνια πέραν της Ελλάδας ιδρύθηκαν παραρτήματα στην Ευρώπη, στην Κύπρο και στην Αυστραλία.
Η εκλογή του Σάββα Τσίβικου έγινε κατά την διάρκεια των αρχαιρεσιών του 101ου Συνεδρίου της οργάνωσης που έλαβε χώρα την προηγούμενη εβδομάδα στο Λας Βέγκας και συγκεκριμένα την Πέμπτη, 27 Ιουλίου 2023.
Ο νέος ύπατος πρόεδρος της AHEPA εκλέχτηκε παμψηφεί και χωρίς αντίπαλο, διότι έχει υπηρετήσει την οργάνωση από όλα τα πόστα, ενώ τον προηγούμενο χρόνο ανέλαβε πρωτοβουλίες για την υποστήριξη και την ίδρυση νέων τμημάτων ανά την υφήλιο και στην κυριολεξία οργάνωση την Ελλάδα, την Κύπρο και την Ευρώπη.
Ο Σάββας Τσίβικος είναι ένα από τα πιο δυναμικά και προβεβλημένα στελέχη της ομογένειας της Αμερικής, διότι έχει ασχοληθεί με πλείστους οργανισμούς και έχει διατελέσει πρόεδρός τους, μεταξύ των οποίων μπορούμε να αναφέρουμε τον Παμπάφιο Σύνδεσμο Αμερικής, την Ομοσπονδία Κυπριακών Οργανώσεων Αμερικής, την Ομοσπονδία Ελληνικών Σωματείων Νέας Υόρκης, το Ταμείο Κυπριοπαίδων. Είναι μέλος του Τάγματος των Αρχόντων του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου, της Ηγεσίας των 100, στέλεχος του Αρχιεπισκοπικού Συμβουλίου και άλλων ομογενειακών φορέων.
Έχει διατελέσει πρόεδρος της κοινότητας του Αγίου Γεωργίου στο Όσεαν Σίτι της Νέας Ιερσέης και επί της δικής του προεδρίας ανεγέρθηκε ο νέος περικαλλής ναός.
Ο νέος ύπατος πρόεδρος της ΑΗΕΠΑ είναι χαρισματικός και με πολυδιάστατη προσφορά ηγέτης και έχει βραβευτεί από την ομογένεια, την Εκκλησία, την Αμερικανική Πολιτεία και την Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία και η εκλογή του προκάλεσε τον ενθουσιασμό των συνέδρων.
Η θητεία του ύπατου προέδρου της AHEPA, είναι μονοετής, αλλά έχει γίνει πλέον παράδοση να επανεκλέγεται και να ανανεώνεται η θητεία του στο επόμενο συνέδριο.
Συνεπώς ο Σάββας Τσίβικος συν τοις άλλοις θα ηγηθεί του 102ου Ετήσιου Συνέδριου που για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία της οργάνωσης θα λάβει χώρα τον Ιούλιο του 2024 στην Κύπρο. Πρόκειται για ένα ιστορικό γεγονός και ο νέος πρόεδρος με το κύρος του και με την επιρροή του στην πολιτική και πολιτειακή ηγεσία της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας θα κάνει την διαφορά και θα το συνέδριο θα εκπέμψει μηνύματα στήριξης στον αγώνα για την ελευθερία της Κύπρου και την επανένωση του νησιού σε μια ελεύθερη πατρίδα.
Μια από τις πρώτες πρωτοβουλίες μετά την ανάληψη των καθηκόντων της νέας ηγεσίας ήταν η ίδρυση ταμείου αρωγής για τους πυροπαθείς της Ελλάδας με την επωνυμία Emergency Relief Fund. Πρόκειται για το πρώτο ταμείο που ιδρύθηκε στην Αμερική γι αυτόν τον σκοπό.

| Savas Tsivicos Elected Supreme President – Emergency Fund for Greece Wildfires Relief LAS VEGAS—The delegates of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (Order of AHEPA), the leading grassroots service association for the nation’s millions of American citizens of Hellenic heritage and Philhellenes, elected Savas Tsivicos, of Ocean, N.J., Supreme President, at the 101st Annual Supreme Convention, Las Vegas, Nev. Tsivicos, a member of Thomas Edison Chapter 287, ran unopposed in elections that were held July 27, 2023. Formal installation ceremonies were held July 28, 2023. “It is an honor and privilege to be elected AHEPA Supreme President,” Tsivicos said. “My sincere appreciation is given to the convention delegates who placed their support and trust in me to lead this longstanding unique organization in the coming year.” Tsivicos’ first act was to open AHEPA’s Emergency Relief Fund to collect donations to assist victims of Greece’s wildfires. He also met with the Supreme Lodge and the district governors to highlight programs that address membership growth and expansion. He also appealed to AHEPA’s core leadership team to connect with their chapters to promote AHEPA programs and projects that support AHEPA’s mission. “The need to provide community service is never ending, both in the United States and abroad. I am eager to work with the Supreme Lodge, and our membership, to address this challenge, as well as others that may come our way,” he said. “Of course, the promotion of Hellenic ideals will always be a priority for AHEPA, and I pledge to keep AHEPA on a steady path set forth by my predecessors with a spirit that is true to our mission.” 2023-24 AHEPA Leadership The AHEPA Supreme Lodge is the international governing body of the organization. The Executive Committee of the 2023-24 Supreme Lodge is comprised of: Canadian President Emmanuel Constas, Supreme Vice President E. Chris Kaitson, Supreme Secretary Dr. Zenon Christodoulou, Supreme Treasurer Demetrios Kirkiles, and Supreme Counselor Themistocles Frangos. The Supreme Governors are: Region I: Kostas G. Sofikits; Region II: Georgio F. Comninos; Region III: Dimitri Rozanitis; Region IV: Alexander Boutsioulis; Region V: John Karipides; Region VI: George George; Region VII: Marshall A. Monsell, III; Region VIII: Wynn Storton; and Region X: Basilio Petkidis. Alex Geourntas earned re-election, and Louis Atsavas election, to the AHEPA Board of Trustees. Nicholas A. Karacostas, PSP, earned re-election as Chairman of the Board. AHEPA Family Elections The organizations that comprise the AHEPA Family also held elections. Marianthi Treppiedi was elected Daughters of Penelope Grand President, Alec Economakis was elected Sons of Pericles Supreme President, and Ally Tsenekos was elected Maids of Athena Grand President. The Installation Ceremony of newly elected officers officially concluded the 101st AHEPA Supreme Convention, which began July 24. It’s most pertinent to comment most fruitfully by appending my reaction to a past distinguished lAHEPA leader, James B. Zafiros, on his aspirations for the new administration:
B”H As the “other” I’ve rarely felt the organizational warmth and acceptance in the Greek American community. Rather, as a Greek-American-Jewish-survivor of the Holocaust of Greek Jewry (87% exterminated)), I often felt the sting of our compatriots’ embedded anti-Semitism (67% of the population), frequently served with insulting humiliations. However, I am not rehashing the many grievances Greek minorities endure in our heterogeneous native land and will direct my attention to the distinguished AHEPA retiree whose well-intended essay is at once contradictory, unnecessarily hagiographic, and vacuous in attempting to lift the spirits of a new generation of, as he admits, increasingly assimilated American Hellenes! American is indeed a good starting point, for it has come to my attention that the Order counts among its chapters 22 members belonging to the Robert E. Lee affiliate in Norfolk, VA. Immediately, my thoughts turned to the seditionist/insurrectionist event of January 6, 2021; also, to the many belated honorable decisions to have monuments removed and military bases renamed both away from individuals who in another epoch attempted to undo our glorious experiment in self government! Doesn’t it strike you unpatriotic, more than a half century of the passage of Civil Rights —- indeed, embarrassing and shameful —- to have a unit of AHEPA (founded to combat ethnic prejudice) proudly display such ignorance-intolerance-bigotry? But, then, one need not be overly surprised; after all, a substantial number of those compatriots the retired leader identifies as having attained distinctions in their chosen fields in our blessed America can be inferred to decidedly share the right-wing views of the mass of Greek American voters who repeatedly voted for the twice-impeached, twice-indicted (so far), unfit 45th President (and have vocalized their intention to do so again)! Such a record reflects the miseducation and distortion of history on which our Greek immigrants continue to be exposed in their parochial schools (where the Holocaust is neglected), and in the Orthodox Church (where the Big Lie of blaming the Jews for the crucifixion anachronistically continues to be slanderously preached)!
