Τη συνάντηση του Γενικού Γραμματέα του ΟΗΕ με τον ηγέτη των Τουρκοκυπρίων, επιβεβαίωσε ο Εκπρόσωπος Τύπου του Αντόνιο Γκουτέρες, Στεφάν Ντουζαρίκ, απαντώντας σε ερώτηση του Αθηναϊκού – Μακεδονικού Πρακτορείου Ειδήσεων.
Ο Αντόνιο Γκουτέρες αναμένεται να συναντηθεί με τον Ερσίν Τατάρ την Παρασκευή 5 Απριλίου στην έδρα του διεθνούς Οργανισμού, στη Ν. Υόρκη.
Η συνάντηση γίνεται σε συνέχεια των επαφών που είχε στην Κύπρο με τους ηγέτες και εκπροσώπους των δύο πλευρών, η προσωπική απεσταλμένη του Γενικού Γραμματέα για το Κυπριακό, Μαρία ‘Ανχελα Ολγκίν, αλλά και της συνάντησης του πρόεδρου της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, Νίκου Χριστοδουλίδη με τον Αντόνιο Γκουτέρες που έλαβε χώρα στις Βρυξέλλες.

B”H Tomorrow’s scheduled meeting between the Secretary-General of the UNO Antonio Guterres and the leader of the Turkish-Cypriot minority and self-proclaimed independent entity of Northern Cyprus can be viewed from several prisms. Is it an occasion to express international recognition to this manufactured by Türkiye nation, and given no formal acknowledgment by any other country? Does it portend a step toward reconciliation with the Greek-Cypriot majority, and a prelude to forge a more creative confederation on a better footing than the island’s 1960 Declaration of Independence under the ill-fated Archbishop Makarios? Is the forthcoming tet a tet one further reflection of the positive vibrations that have recently emanated from warming Türko-Hellenic relations? Türkiye’s President Erdogan, always seeming erratic, has made conciliating sounds about improving contacts with Israel (the obnoxious epithets hurled at the Jewish State’s leader muffled)! Suffice to say that overall it would be most unwelcome paving the way for a Turkish-Cypriot state, an abject admission of failure for inter-ethnic coexistence, a poor prognosis for other conflicts proliferating in our troubled world!
