ΝΕΑ ΥΟΡΚΗ. Ο ιστορικός Παγχιακός Σύλλογος «Κοραής» Νέας Υόρκης ανταποκρίθηκε στο αίτημα της προέδρου του Παγχιακού Συλλόγου Ατόμων με Αναπηρία, κ. Σοφίας Μιχάλα για την δημιουργία ενός θερμοκηπίου για την ενασχόληση των Ατόμων με Αναπηρία και την προετοιμασία τους για την επανένταξή τους στην κοινωνία.
Η ανταπόκριση του Συλλόγου ήταν άμεση και τον Ιούλιο υλοποιήθηκε η υπόσχεση και συνάμα η εγκατάσταση του θερμοκηπίου στις εγκαταστάσεις του Παγχιακού Συλλόγου Ατόμων με Αναπηρία στο Νεοχώρι της Χίου.
Ο πρόεδρος του Παγχιακού Συλλόγου «Κοραής» Νέας Υόρκης Παναγιώτης Γεραζούνης πλαισιωμένος από στελέχη και μέλη του Συλλόγου στις 4 Αυγούστου 2023 επισκέφθηκαν τις κτιριακές εγκαταστάσεις και είδαν ιδίοις όμμασι ότι τα χρήματά τους έπιασαν τόπο.
Η αντιπροσωπεία του Συλλόγου είχε την δυνατότητα να ενημερωθεί για τα προγράμματα του Παγχιακού Συλλόγου Ατόμων με Αναπηρία και να συνομιλήσει με τα στελέχη και τα μέλη του Συλλόγου που ευεργετήθηκαν από την δωρεά των ομογενών.
Ο Παγχιακός Σύλλογος Ατόμων με Αναπηρία είναι ένας από τους νεώτερους οργανισμούς, ιδρύματα και φορείς που προστέθηκαν στον μακρύ κατάλογο των φορέων που ευεργετήθηκαν και συνεχίζουν να ευεργετούνται από την γενναιοδωρία των ομογενών.

Παγχιακός Σύλλογος Ατόμων με Αναπηρία – Π.Σ.Α.μεΑ. (Panchian Association for the Disabled – AmeA) was founded in 1995, with the aim of promoting and solving as much as possible the problems of People with Disabilities in the prefecture of Chios and aiming at their social integration. It covers all categories of disability, as well as parents of children with disabilities and has 850 members.
One of their goals is to create sheltered workshops for people with disabilities. Sheltered workshops are workplaces, which are no different from normal ones, and in which people with severe disabilities work, whose vocational rehabilitation in the free labor market is considered impossible. They are employed in jobs adapted to their capabilities. Protected workshops provide security for their workers as they work at their own pace, according to their degree of competence and with the support of or special trainers and auxiliary staff.
In 2022, AMEA made a special request to Korais to contribute towards to the construction of a nursery/greenhouse at the AmeA facility in Neochori, Chios. The intention would be to plant flowers and seasonal vegetables, cultivation of herbs, drying and standardization of products, but also deal with the cultivation of mastic trees. They will employ around fifteen (15) people with disabilities and will be paid, in accordance with the current legislation, depending on their working hours.
The facility is in Neochori called “Γεφυρα” or Bridge to signify that it is intended not only to rehabilitate or convalesce those with disabilities but to help them develop skills to integrate them and become productive members of the community at large.
In 2023, the Panchiaki Korais Society of New York proudly donated the construction of the new greenhouse which was substantially completed in July.
On August 4, 2023, we were graciously hosted by the administrators and staff and were given a tour of the facility and the greenhouse which is almost ready for use. What was especially heartwarming was the appreciation shown and being told that anyone who has equipment like this are «ευλογημένοι» or blessed.
