ΝΕΑ ΥΟΡΚΗ. Η εκλογή του Μητροπολίτη Νέας Ιερσέης, κ. Αποστόλου έχει προκαλέσει την ευαρέσκεια κλήρου και λαού της Μητροπόλεως της Νέας Ιερσέης και κατ΄ επέκταση της ομογένειας των ΗΠΑ και τα ευχετήρια μηνύματα στο διαδίκτυο έχουν πάρει μορφή χιονοστιβάδας.
Αν και μέχρι και ετούτη την ώρα δεν έχουν ανακοινωθεί η ημερομηνία και ο ναός που θα λάβει χώρα η τελετή ενθρόνισης του Μητροπολίτη Νέας Ιερσέης, κ. Αποστόλου, εν τούτοις ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αμερικής, κ. Ελπιδοφόρος μέσω μιας εγκυκλίου προς τους ιερείς της Μητροπόλεως τους καλεί αρχής γενομένης από σήμερα (25η Ιουλίου 2023) να μνημονεύουν σε όλες τις θείες λειτουργίες ως κανονικό ιεράρχη τον Μητροπολίτη Νέας Ιερσέης, κ. Απόστολο.
Ο Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης, κ. Βαρθολομαίος αμέσως μετά την εκλογή του κ. Αποστόλου ανακοίνωσε ότι στη νέα περίοδο της Ιεράς Συνόδου του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου που αρχίζει την 1η Σεπτεμβρίου 2023 ο Μητροπολίτης Νέας Ιερσέης, κ. Απόστολος θα συμμετάσχει για έναν χρόνο ως μέλος της Ιεράς Συνόδου.
Πρόκειται για μια ιδιαίτερη τιμή για τον κ. Απόστολο, καθώς θα είναι ένας από τους νεότερους σε ηλικία και σε υπηρεσία ιεράρχες – αν όχι ο νεότερος – στη νέα περίοδο της Ιεράς Συνόδου που ξεκινά ανήμερα της Αρχής της Ινδίκτου.
Στους έξι πρώτους μήνες της νέας περιόδου της Ιεράς Συνόδου εξ Αμερικής θα συμμετέχουν από κοινού ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αμερικής, κ. Ελπιδοφόρος και ο Μητροπολίτης Νέας Ιερσέης, κ. Απόστολος. Πρόκειται για ένα σημαντικό και με πολλαπλές διδακτικές αξίες γεγονός για το Μητροπολίτη, κ. Απόστολο, αλλά με ευεργετικές συνέπειες και για την ενότητα και την συνοχή της ίδιας της Ιεράς Επαρχιακής Συνόδου.

Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Elects H.G. Bishop Apostolos of Medeia as Metropolitan of New Jersey
The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened today, July 24, 2023, and elected His Grace Bishop Apostolos of Medeia as Metropolitan of New Jersey.
In the wake of this consequential decision, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America shared the following reflections:
“With profound joy, I extend my fervent congratulations to His Eminence Apostolos on his election to the seat of the Metropolitan of New Jersey. I pray that our Lord grants him wisdom and abundant blessings as he assumes the sacred duties entrusted to him by our Church. The Metropolitan has devotedly served our Archdiocese as a priest in the Metropolis of Boston and the Archdiocesan District, as Chancellor of the Metropolis of San Francisco, as Chief Secretary to the Holy Eparchial Synod, and as a faithful and capable custodian of the liturgical and pastoral responsibilities of the Metropolis of New Jersey for the past several years. I hold steadfast confidence that his spiritual gifts and earned experience and knowledge will guide his ministry in fruitful and loving service of our Greek Orthodox parishes in the Holy Metropolis of New Jersey.”
His Eminence continued: “We are deeply grateful to His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Their decision illuminates a path of renewal as we continue to build an Archdiocese that is ever more united, empowered, and dedicated to fulfilling its sacred mission.”
The date of the Metropolitan’s enthronement is forthcoming. Meanwhile, His All-Holiness has announced that Metropolitan Apostolos has been invited to participate as a member of the Holy and Sacred Synod for one year, beginning at the start of the next synodical period on September 1, 2023. In a special Encyclical, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros exhorts the Metropolis of New Jersey clergy to commemorate Metropolitan Apostolos in services as the canonical hierarch, starting today.
