1. B”H As is my wont, i monitor the Greek media there and here with emphasis on the Internet outlets; more strident and less stringently regulated for extremist content.
   Particularly driven I am to detect the always disparaging references to Jews, even on subjects where their presence can only be inferred in the paranoid schemes of anti-Semites. Thus, in his Monday program and I happened to tune in to the Greek Voice’s Angelo’s Angelatos insistent to talk about what he erroneously kep calling the Spetses Agreement —- instead on the Prespes Accord that ended the name controversy with the designation of North Macedonia in 2018. It was the nonissue that threatened Balkan serenity for a generation, with Greece adamantly refusing Macedonia to be used except with connection to its own prefecture; never mind that other portions are shared with Bulgaria as well as the weak neighbor north of Greece. Angelos wanted to vent on his perceived treason of the then Alexi Tsipras Administration and his foreign minister Nikos Kotzias who initialed the compact. For the occasion Angelatos had as guest a medical doctor from Thrace’s Alexandroupolis who had arrived to tour five American states (he participated from Chicago, today he’s in FL and Thursday in NY before returning after a month’s stay, emphasizing with his own expenses)! Dr. Ioannis Atzaboglou was the perfect willing foil: heaping obeisance and sycophantic praise on his ignorant-intolerant-bigoted host who constantly interrupted to heal abuse on the Evreous (Jews), liberals, and an unlikely union of fascist-communists; oh, yes, he threw in the name George Soros for good measure! For his part, and obviously unprepared for history’s subtleties stressed his mission to unite our disparate Hellenic community, hailing the patriotism of Cretans, Arcadians, Laconians but conspicuously absent was any mention of the Pan-Macedonian Association which the noxious Dimitris Filippidis heads! My constant created impression was the conviction that G-d help us if we are dependent on the aforementioned characters to save our underdeveloped native land and our erstwhile compatriots. Still, as a Greek-American-Jewish immigrant and Holocaust survivor I am naturally hopeful and optimistic that one day better minds will emerge to stir modern Hellas and its people to paths of righteousness and progress; it’s just that yesterday, or tomorrow was not such an occasion.
