Παράλληλα με τις επιχειρήσεις, επιστήμες και τέχνες, σημαντική είναι η παρουσία των ομογενών στην πολιτική. Αν και οι Έλληνες της Αμερικής άργησαν να πολιτογραφηθούν και αποτελούν λιγότερο από 1% του πληθυσμού των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών, πολλοί ομογενείς κατάφεραν να εκλεγούν σε ανώτατα αξιώματα.
Ο Mike Dukakis πήρε το χρίσμα του Δημοκρατικού κόμματος και έφτασε κοντά στο αξίωμα του προέδρου της Αμερικής. Ο Spiro Agnew εξελέγη αντιπρόεδρος της Αμερικής. Οι Paul Sarbanes, Paul Tsongas και Olympia Snowe εκλέχθηκαν γερουσιαστές στη Ομοσπονδιακή Γερουσία και δεκάδες άλλοι ομογενείς στην Ομοσπονδιακή Βουλή. Ο Spiro Agnew εξελέγη κυβερνήτης της Maryland και ο Mike Dukakis της Massachusetts και ο George Christopher εκλέγει δήμαρχος του San Francisco. Πολλοί άλλοι Ελληνοαμερικανοί εκλέχθηκαν γερουσιαστές και βουλευτές πολιτειών και δήμαρχοι πόλεων.
Με την ανακοίνωση των αποτελεσμάτων των εκτάκτων εκλογών της 1ης Απριλίου, ο ομογενής Jim Patronis εκλέγει ομοσπονδιακός βουλευτής στην Φλώριδα και ομογενειακοί βουλευτές στο Αμερικανικό Κογκρέσο ανήλθαν στους επτά. Ακολουθούν τα ονόματα των Ελληνοαμερικανών βουλευτών με το όνομα της πολιτείας στην οποία εκλέγονται, το κόμμα στο οποίο ανήκουν και το έτος που εκλέχτηκαν για πρώτη φορά.

Εξ αυτών οι τέσσερις εκλέγονται με το Ρεπουμπλικανικό κόμμα και τρεις με το Δημοκρατικό, τέσσερις είναι άντρες και τρεις γυναίκες. Από τους επτά οι τρεις εκλέγονται στην πολιτεία της Φλώριδας, και δυο εκλέγονται στην πολιτεία New Hampshire, που είναι και οι μόνοι που εκλέγονται απ’ αυτή την πολιτεία στο Ομοσπονδιακό Κογκρέσο. Δύο από αυτούς τους βουλευτές έχουν Δωδεκανησιακή καταγωγή, ο Gus Bilirakis από την Κάλυμνο και ο Jim Patronis από την Πάτμο.
Seven Greek Americans in the US Congress

Alongside business, science and the arts, the presence of the Greek Americans in politics is significant. Although Greek Americans were slow to become naturalized and constitute less than 1% of the population of the United States, many Greek Americans have managed to be elected to high office.
Mike Dukakis was nominated by the Democratic Party and came close to becoming President of the United States. Spiro Agnew was elected Vice President of the United States. Paul Sarbanes, Paul Tsongas and Olympia Snowe were elected Senators in the United States Senate, and dozens other Greek Americans were elected to the United States House of Representatives. Spiro Agnew was elected Governor of Maryland and Mike Dukakis was elected Governor of Massachusetts. George Christopher was elected Mayor of San Francisco and many other Greek Americans were elected State Senators and Representatives and City Mayors.
With the announcement of the results of April 1st special election, the Greek American Jim Patronis is elected federal congressman in Florida, bringing the number of the Greek Americans members of Congress to seven. Below are listed the Greek American members of Congress, along with the name of the state in which they are elected, the political party they belong, and the year in which they were first elected.

Of them, four are elected with the Republican party and three with the Democratic party, four are men and three are women. Of the seven, three are elected in the state of Florida, and two are the only congressmen of the state of New Hampshire. Two of the seven are of Dodecanese origin, Gus Bilirakis from Kalymnos and Jim Patronis from Patmos.
