ΝΕΑ ΥΟΡΚΗ. Επιπόλαιη και επικίνδυνη χαρακτήρισε ο πρόεδρος της Παγκόσμιας Συντονιστικής Επιτροπής Κυπριακού Αγώνα (ΠΣΕΚΑ), κ. Φίλιπ Κρίστοφερ την δήλωση του υπουργού Ναυτιλίας, κ. Χρήστου Στυλιανίδη ότι «η μισή Κύπρος είναι τουρκική».
Ο κ. Στυλιανίδης μιλώντας στην Βουλή των Ελλήνων ανέφερε μεταξύ άλλων «Εάν κάποιοι εννοούν άλλου τύπου μάχες όπως τις μάχες που έδωσε η Χούντα και χάθηκε η μισή Κύπρος, ναι εγώ είμαι εναντίον. Γιατί μεγάλωσα στην Πράσινη Γραμμή και ξέρω τι σημαίνει οι μάχες να δίνονται απλώς και μόνο ως μάχες «fake» γιατί ο Ελληνισμός δεν έχει άλλα περιθώρια στην Κύπρο. Η μισή Κύπρος είναι ήδη τουρκική. Ευχαριστώ πολύ» προκαλώντας αντιδράσεις τόσο εντός της Βουλής, όσο και στην Κύπρο».

«During the past 50 years of the illegal occupation of 37% of the Republic of Cyprus, a member of the European Union, we have exerted all efforts to keep the basis of the problem as one of illegal invasion and continued occupation by Turkish Troops.
Even though Turkey has not respected UN Resolutions, we continue to fight for a free, united Cyprus where all citizens, Greek, Turkish, Armenians, Maronites and others, can live in peace and harmony with human rights under one united Federal Republic.
The frivolous statement of Greek Minister Stylianides that “half of Cyprus is Turkish,” can only give credibility to Mr. Erdogan and Turkey who continues to maintain 40,000 troops on the Island and keeps 200,000 people from returning to their ancestral homes.
We are not ready to compromise and we will never forget the illegal brutal invasion of 1974 and will never accept the status quo of the occupation!

Η δήλωση σε ανεπίσημη μετάφραση:
Κατά τη διάρκεια των τελευταίων 50 ετών της παράνομης κατοχής του 37% του εδάφους της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, μέλους της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, έχουμε καταβάλει κάθε δυνατή προσπάθεια για να διατηρήσουμε την ουσία του προβλήματος ως παράνομης εισβολής και ως συνεχιζόμενης κατοχής από τα τουρκικά στρατεύματα.
Παρόλο που η Τουρκία δεν έχει συμμορφωθεί με τα ψηφίσματα του Οργανισμού των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, συνεχίζουμε να αγωνιζόμαστε για μια ελεύθερη, ενωμένη Κύπρο όπου όλοι οι πολίτες, Έλληνες, Τούρκοι, Αρμένιοι, Μαρωνίτες και άλλοι, θα μπορούν να ζουν ειρηνικά και αρμονικά με ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα σε μια ενιαία Ομοσπονδιακή Δημοκρατία.
Η επιπόλαιη δήλωση του Έλληνα Υπουργού Στυλιανίδη ότι “η μισή Κύπρος είναι τουρκική”, μόνο αξιοπιστία μπορεί να δώσει στον κ. Ερντογάν και στην Τουρκία που συνεχίζει να διατηρεί 40.000 στρατιώτες στο νησί και να εμποδίζει 200.000 ανθρώπους να επιστρέψουν στις πατρογονικές τους εστίες.
Δεν μπορούμε να συμβιβαστούμε και δεν θα ξεχάσουμε ποτέ την παράνομη βίαιη εισβολή του 1974 και δεν θα αποδεχτούμε ποτέ το status quo της κατοχής!
Το έργο συνεχίζεται, Η ελπίδα παραμένει ζωντανή και το όνειρο μιας ελεύθερης ενωμένης Κύπρου δεν θα σβήσει ποτέ!

B”H it’s a very rare moment, and only fleeting of no lasting consequence, for me to agree with PSEKA’s leader, Philip Christopher. But I do, wholeheartedly, in his outrage with a speaker in the Hellenic Parliament ready and willing to cede 37% of Cyprus, invaded and occupied since 1974 by Türkiye, to its permanent control (under the Quisling regime of the local Cypriot Turkish minority)! There’s little doubt that in the intervening decades new facts on the ground have been created as an influx of Turks by government compulsion, or voluntarily seeking enrichment in supplanting Cypriot Greek properties. However, neither international law nor UNO resolutions support such land grabs. Christopher, an otherwise multi-level failed leader (currently both the honoree and event chair for the annual unsuccessful Greek independence parade in recent years) properly emphasizes that a future reunion of Cyprus will offer the island’s ethnic and religious minorities will enjoy rights and privileges denied or curtailed in the unfortunate and aborted tenure of its founding President Archbishop Makarios! As to the nature of a future reunion, a federal republic cannot be instituted before a looser confidence-building confederation is first enacted. Remember, in our own glorious Federal American republic the Articles of Confederation preceded the Constitution’s separation of powers, with checks and balances. The tiresome PSEKA head could have gained much had he taken my course in American Government, in the day. Perhaps he can arrange a seminar, in my retirement, for our Cypriot-Greek-American community.
