Παρουσία πλήθους κόσμου πραγματοποιήθηκε στη Κω το Σάββατο, 21 Οκτωβρίου 2023, η τελετή απόδοσης του Όρκου του Ιπποκράτη. Κατά τη διάρκεια της εκδήλωσης παρέλαβαν τα διπλώματά τους 28 φοιτητές από Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό εκ των οποίων τέσσερις Ελληνοαμερικανοί.
Τους 4 νέους ομογενείς γιατρούς, την Δρ. Αφροδίτη Μέγαρη, τον Δρ. Αντώνη Δημόπουλο, τον Δρ. Αθανάσιο Μπακάση και τον Δρ. Γεώργιο Ανδρεακάκη συνόδευσε η Δρ. Στέλλα Ντούρος, βοηθός Ταμίας του ιστορικού Ελληνικού Ιατρικού Συλλόγου της Νέας Υόρκης.
Η Δρ. Ντούρος εκπροσώπησε, επίσης, στο συνέδριο τον Πρόεδρο του Συλλόγου Δρ. Αντώνιο Γασπαρή και τα υπόλοιπα μέλη του Συλλόγου. Σημειώνεται πως ο Ελληνικός Ιατρικός Σύλλογος κάλυψε εξ ολοκλήρου τα έξοδα και των 4 νέων ομογενών γιατρών.
Ο Δρ. Αντώνιος Γασπαρής, πρόεδρος του HMS, σχολίασε: «Το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο του HMS είναι πλήρως αφοσιωμένο στην υποστήριξη της αποστολής του Διεθνούς Ιπποκράτειου Ιδρύματος και στη διάδοση του νοήματος του Όρκου του Ιπποκράτη σε όλο τον κόσμο. Θα συνεχίσουμε να στέλνουμε τους νέους γιατρούς μας στην τελετή του Όρκου του Ιπποκράτη και θα επεκτείνουμε τη συνεργασία μας με το Διεθνές Ιπποκράτειο Ίδρυμα.”
Η ορκωμοσία πραγματοποιήθηκε με την παρουσία των αρχών της Κω, πρυτάνεων και κοσμητόρων των Ιατρικών Σχολών των ελληνικών πανεπιστημίων, προέδρων των ιατρικών σχολών και ιατρικών συλλόγων και πλήθους κόσμου.
On October 21, 2023, the Hellenic Medical Society (HMS) participated in the Hippocratic Oath Ceremony in Kos, Greece, the birthplace of Hippocrates, the “Father of Modern Medicine.” Hippocratic Week started in Athens and provided the opportunity for 25 medical school graduates from around the world to visit Athens, Kos, and Kalymnos to explore important historical locations and museums. The conference focused on the history of medicine and the use of various plants and herbs for medicinal purposes during ancient times.
A delegation of four young doctors of Hellenic-American descent with the support of the Hellenic Medical Society participated in the ceremony and took the Oath of Hippocrates at the Asklipieio, where Hippocrates once practiced. The young doctors, Dr. Aphrodite Megaris, Dr. Athanasios Dimitrios Bakasis, Dr. Antonios Dimopoulos, and Dr. Georgios Andreakakis also had the opportunity to take part in the Summer School’s «Career Day» where they met other medical professionals from around the world.
Dr. Stella Douros, Assistant Treasurer of the HMS, attended the event representing the HMS and shared that «As a board member of the Hellenic Medical Society and as a Greek-American of Dodekanese descent, it was a great honor to represent the society at this Hippocratic Oath Ceremony and conference. I’d like to congratulate the students and the young physicians, and wish them the best for a bright future in medicine.”
Dr. Antonios Gasparis, President of the HMS, commented “The HMS Board is fully dedicated to support the mission of the International Hippocratic Foundation and spread the meaning of the Hippocratic Oath around the world. We will continue to send our young physicians to the Hippocratic Oath ceremony and expand on our collaboration with the International Hippocratic Foundation.
