Με το παρόν, 14ο δημοσίευμα, συνεχίζουμε με Καρπαθιακά δίστιχα που το πέρασμα του χρόνου δεν τα απαλείφει και διατηρούνται ζωντανά.
Σύμφωνα με το Καρπαθιακό έθιμο του γάμου, μετά την θρησκευτική τελετή ακολουθεί παραδοσιακό γαμήλιο γεύμα στην αυλή της εκκλησίας ή στην αυλή κάποιου μεγάλου σπιτιού, ή ακόμη και σε ένα χωράφι, εάν επρόκειτο για μεγάλο γάμο, κατάλληλα διαμορφωμένο, στρωμένο με τραπέζια και πάγκους. Παλαιότερα, στην Αμερική, το γαμήλιο γεύμα γινόταν στο υπόγειο χολ της εκκλησία και αργότερα σε πολυτελή ξενοδοχεία (catering hotels).
Το διάστημα που ακολουθεί μετά το γεύμα και προτού αρχίσει το γλέντι με τους χορούς, είναι αφιερωμένο στα επαινετικά δίστιχα. Γονείς και στενοί συγγενείς, με αυτοσχέδιες μαντινάδες τραγουδούν τα προτερήματα των νεονύμφων. Υμνούν την εξυπνάδα, την εργατικότητα, την λεβεντοσύνη και την γενιά του γαμπρού, όπως με την ακόλουθη μαντινάδα:
Ο Φράγκος έχει τ’ όνομα, κι ο Ρούσιος έχει χάρη,
κ’ εσού σ’ απ’ ακριή γενιά, από του Σακελλάρη.
Επίσης επαινούν την νοικοκυροσύνη, τα κανακαρίκια και την ομορφιά της νύφης, όπως με την ακόλουθη μαντινάδα:
Στον ουρανόν η Άρτεμις, στη γη η Περσεφόνη,
στη θάλασσα ο Ποσειδών κι εσύ στα κάλλη μόνη.
Και σε ένα Καρπάθικο γάμο όταν ήρθε η σειρά του νονού της νύφης, είπε μια μαντινάδα για τον γαμπρό και την ακόλουθη για την νύφη:
Καμάρι το (εί)χα πάντοτε, να πω στην συντροφιά μου,
πως η κοπέλα που (ε)παινούν, είναι βαφτιστικιά μου.
Traditional Karpathian couplets – 14th

With this 14th publication we continue with Karpathian couplets that the passage of time does not erase and are kept alive.
According to the Karpathian wedding custom, the religious ceremony is followed by the traditional wedding meal in the courtyard of the church or in the courtyard of a large house, or even in a field, if it was a large wedding, properly arranged, laid out with long tables and benches. In the past, in America, wedding meals were held in the church hall in the basement and later in luxury catering hotels.
The time following the meal, before the feast begins with the dances, is devoted to praising the newlywed. Parents and close relatives, with improvised couplets, sing the virtues of the newlyweds. They praise the intelligence, industriousness, resilience and the ancestry of the bridegroom, as with the following couplet (all couplets in free translation):
The Frank has the name, the Russian the grace,
and you the heritage of Sakellaris’ family.
Also, they praise the bride with her housekeeping, “kanakarikia” (real estate property and old coins) and her beauty, as with the following couplet:
In heaven reign Artemis, on earth Persephone,
Poseidon in the sea, and you alone in beauty.
And at a Karpathian wedding when it was the bride’s godfather’s turn, he said a couplet for the groom and the following for the bride:
Always I was proud, to say to my friends,
that the young girl they are praising, is my goddaughter.
