Ευγνωμοσύνη για τους εκπαιδευτικούς της Αναλήψεως στο Φέρβιου της Νέας Ιερσέης

B”H My proverbial hat is off and I gladly join to salute the educational personnel receiving deserved appreciation and gratitude for contributing to the successful efforts to bring along a new generation of Greek American youth on the learning path of American and Hellenic values. Foremost, in my considerate estimation, observing and admiring the oeuvre of his decades-old contribution to Hellenism is the incomparable progressive voice of Dr. Demosthenes Triantafillou; proud to count him as a dearest friend! Most instructive for me is his deep understanding of the chasm that has been permitted to needlessly fester for eons between our Christian and Jewish compatriots. With the advent of our Petition of Conscience, my friend was an early signatory of the demand to have our native land withdraw its sole European-Christian opposition, circa 11/29/1947 in the UNGA, to the birth of a Jewish State. After 75 years, it’s about time! Also, in light of the general ignorance of the Holocaust by Greek American students —- I personally felt the dismay upon asking such pupils about the subject only to find them looking unawares —- let parochial schools mandate such education; and with an added dimension. For decades American Jewish and secular schools have engaged the Names Not Numbers project. In a creative fashion, Holocaust survivors —- I’ve repeatedly been a participant —- are interviewed and filmed in multi-faceted way; enthralled not only with the unique lifetime experience, but also discovering the technique of filmmaking. Operatives in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese have gazed kindly on such initiative; perhaps, Dr. Triantafillou can urge its fulfillment! May it so be done, soon. Amen.
